From "Keeping Up with the Joneses" 1915 Black and white Animation Silent with music bed "From a series begun in September 1915 based on the Keeping Up with the Joneses newspaper comic by "Pop" Momand. The films begin with "out of the inkwell" drawings of the sort seen in Winsor McCay films and later elaborated by Max Fleischer. Like other comic strips and animated films of the era, notably Bringing Up Father (published from 1912; filmed 1916-18), Keeping Up...

Pathe comedy with Max Linder, Jacques Vandenne The story tells of two sons and a father, all of whom are paying separate and clandestine attentions to the same girl. They arrive one after the other, and are secreted in various parts of the room, where they remain until all three suddenly peep out together. The final scene, where the elderly papa is enjoining a discreet silence upon his son, is, perhaps the best thing of the kind Messrs. Pathe have yet done. (The Bioscope, Oct. 21, 1909)

This is a compilation of three prints from the Paper Print collection of the Library of Congress produced by American Mutoscpe and Biograph in 1906. I have added music and sharpened the title. The story is inconsequential but the scenes of the workers on the high beams are fascinating in those days before special effects, there is even a fight, and remember the cameraman and a bulky camera had to be there too. Enjoy the lovely Victorian gesture of the little girl at the end as she points to the...

This is the colour restored version of the original movie made in 1928 by Jean Epstein. It is also known as "Chute de la Maison Usher". For this silent movie I performed the music live using Piano + V.I.V.O. (Video Interactive Vst Orchestra), a software for interactive audio/video which I recently developed. The software is able to elaborate the sound regarding to the moving images.

Expressionistic and surprisingly accurate science fiction film from the silent age. We sea the solar system from the view of a flying saucer like vehicle of the future. Educational.

Silent (No soundtrack) From the Wikipedia entry for "Cabiria": Cabiria is a 1914 silent movie from the early years of Italy's movie industry, directed by Giovanni Pastrone (1883-1959). The movie is set in ancient Sicily and Carthage during the period of the Second Punic War (218-202 BC). It follows a melodramatic main plot about an abducted little girl, Cabiria, and features an eruption of Mt. Thanks to its imagination, costume designer, boldness and skillfulness W. W. Young film direction "Alice In Wonderland" is the best film adaptation of the Carroll's novel. It's a special delicacy: an early silent film masterpiece that every silent film fan shouldn't miss.

Lensed in an eerily abandoned Paris in 1915, Louis Feuillade's stark chapterplay LES VAMPIRES is a grim and powerful work which is worlds apart from the later glitz and polish of the golden age serials produced by the American studios. It should be noted that serials were nothing new at this point in time. Formative efforts such as THE PERILS OF PAULINE had already established the appeal of these generally inexpensive actioners, with their bizarre twists and inventive death traps. The emphasis...

The Sinking of the Lusitania, released in 1918, is an animated short film by American artist Winsor McCay. It features a short 12 minute explanation of the sinking of RMS Lusitania after it was struck by two torpedoes fired from a German U-boat. The film was one of many animated silent films published to create anti-German sentiment during World War I. McCay illustrated some 25,000 drawings for the production. The film is stylized as a documentary, informing viewers on details from the actual...
